Voice control for laser welders

We don't make laser welders, we make them more efficient.

Your hands have better things to do — like holding the work. Adjust power, MS, HZ, beam diameter, the shutter and more, all by voice. Just say it, and Laser Assistant (LA) does it.

The problem

The laser welder is not the problem. It's the most technologically advanced tool in the jewelry business.

The problem is we are still adjusting the settings by hand.
Who hasn't stepped on the laser welder's pedal and nothing happens, because the shutter was off, or found out the power was too low, or the beam was too wide, or the argon is off.
Every time it's the same process: set the work down, lift your head off the eyepieces, find the controls, make the adjustments, find your view again, pick up the parts, realign the parts, and then step on the pedal again only to repeat this process until it's right.

The solution

You're already thinking about the issue: "the shutter's still off," "it needs more power," "the beam is too large." Press Laser Assistant's foot pedal, state the solution to Laser Assistant, release the pedal and let LA make the changes for you and read them back to you — "power increased three increments, power is now 15" — all the while your hands stay on the work and your eyes stay in the scope.

You're already thinking of the solution.
Now just say it.

What it does

Speak it. It's done.

Below are some of the features you can use by voice, with what you say and what LA says back. Basic is in every subscription; Pro includes Basic features plus more.

Parameters

BasicPro Power, pulse duration, frequency, beam diameter — up or down. The number is how many increments to move, not a target. Built-in stop at five per request, and the new value is read back out loud.

Basic Pro
You — "Power up three"
LA — "Power increased three increments, power is now 15"
You — "Beam down two"
LA — "Beam decreased two increments, beam is now 0.4"

Status queries

BasicPro Ask for the current value of any parameter and Laser Assistant reads it off your welder's display — and automatically after every change.

Basic Pro
You — "What's power?"
LA — "Power is 23"
You — "What's beam?"
LA — "Beam is 0.4"

Recipes

Basic Load a recipe by number — it loads, then tells you what's loaded. Like the settings? Save them back to it.

Pro Includes Basic, plus the following: load by recipe phrase. Name your recipes in your LA portal, then load one by speaking that phrase — no need to remember its number.

Basic Pro Load a recipe
You — "Load recipe 34"
LA — "Platinum retipping loaded"
Basic Pro Save — anytime
No need to load first — save your current settings whenever you like.
You — "Save recipe"
LA — "Recipe saved"
Pro Load by phrase
Speak the recipe phrase exactly as you named it.
You — "Load recipe platinum retipping"
LA — "Platinum retipping loaded"

Pulse shape

BasicPro Load the right pulse shape for the metal you're welding, by name. Platinum, sterling silver, white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, green gold, titanium and more — say the metal and LA sets the pulse shape for it. No need to refer to a chart to cross over the correct pulse shape for a specific metal, or remember which pulse shape goes with what metal — just ask for the pulse shape for that metal to be loaded.

Basic Pro Load a pulse shape
You — "Load pulse shape platinum"
LA — "Platinum pulse shape loaded"

Shutter

Basic Open or close the shutter by voice.

Pro Includes Basic, plus the following: shutter prompting. Using your welder's built-in camera, if LA notices motion in the work chamber — or sees any parameter values changing while the shutter is still closed — it asks "System activity noticed. Turn shutter on?" So you never step on the pedal only to find the shutter was off.

Basic Pro
You — "Shutter on"
LA — "Shutter is on"
Pro Shutter prompting
LA — "System activity noticed. Turn shutter on?"
You — "Yes"
LA — "Shutter is on"

Argon

Basic Say "Argon on" or "Argon off" whenever you need it.

Pro Includes Basic, plus the following: tag any recipe for argon on or off in your LA portal. Load that recipe and LA automatically knows to turn argon on or off.

Basic Pro
You — "Argon on"
LA — "Argon is on"
Pro Argon tagging
You — "Load recipe white gold retipping"
LA — "White gold retipping loaded, argon is now on"

Photo & video

Basic Take pics, or start and stop video, all by voice.

Pro Includes Basic, plus the following: portal access — upload your pics and videos to your LA portal whenever you want, with a button press. Mark favorites, delete, and download to your PC right from the portal — no fumbling with the laser's screen to manage images. Once they're on your PC, it's easy to email them to your clients or keep them on file to document your work.

Basic Pro
You — "Take a picture"
LA — (camera shutter sound — photo taken)
You — "Start video"
LA — "Recording started"
You — "Stop video"
LA — "Recording stopped"

Framing & Ruler

Framing

Pro LA can overlay a virtual circle onto your screen showing where that specific beam diameter will hit, and it changes the circle size to match your current beam diameter and zoom level. So if you're working on a prong close to a heat-sensitive stone, you now have a way to visually make sure not to hit unintended areas.

Ruler

Pro A virtual ruler you can call up the same way, for sizing up what you're looking at before you weld.

Framing and the ruler both require a laser welder with a camera system. The circle and the ruler are currently viewed from the laser welder's screen, and each has to be set up to your specific laser welder's laser pulse outline.
(We are currently working on a product that will allow viewing of this circle and ruler from within the eyepiece itself.)

Pro Framing
You — "Frame on"
LA — (circle appears, sized to the current beam diameter)
You — "Beam down two"
LA — "Beam decreased two increments, beam is now 0.4"
LA — (circle resizes to match)
You — "Frame off"
Pro Ruler
You — "Ruler on" / "Ruler off"

A note on features: which of these Laser Assistant can do depends on what your particular laser welder allows it to control — including activity detection for shutter prompting and a screen overlay for framing and the ruler. Capabilities vary by make and model.

LA never fires the laser welder, and it never controls the laser's firing in any way. You alone fire the laser, with the welder's own foot pedal, exactly as you always have. LA only changes the settings — power, beam diameter, the shutter, argon, and so on — the same values you would otherwise reach over and adjust by hand. It reads and adjusts; it does not weld.

Feature availability depends on your machine. Laser welders vary by brand and model, and a feature works only if your welder has that capability and provides a way to control it. For example, shutter prompting requires your welder's built-in camera, and photo and video require that your machine can capture them. During setup we confirm which features your specific welder supports.
